It was a very up-and-down season for the Atlanta Silverbacks. One filled with some tremendous highs and some disappointing lows that ultimately cost the team a spot in the NASL Playoffs. But for a team that had been through so much turmoil and didn't even know if they'd play the 2015 season, a 7-11-11 season is nothing to scoff at. It's actually pretty respectable.
Silverbacks President and GM Andy Smith released this statement today thanking the fans for their support.
All,
On behalf of every one of us at Atlanta Silverbacks FC, we can't thank you enough for your unwavering support of the Silverbacks throughout this unforgettable season. As we enter our offseason we want to take this time to share with you our gratitude for your support, pride and presence at every game. You have been vital to the success we have seen this season and throughout the year. For that, we thank you.
This team worked tirelessly to improve over the course of the season and made great strides as a team, something I hope was translated on the pitch. We saw greater team cohesion and therefore more goals, and ultimately, wins. Unfortunately, our goal of postseason play will not be realized this season. While we are disappointed, we made tremendous progress. We went from 1-5-4 in the Spring to 6-6-7 in the Fall. That alone is something to be proud of, but there is always work to be done.
Again, I can't thank you enough for your overwhelming support and loyalty to your Atlanta Silverbacks. We couldn't have grown so much without it. Thank you for shouting #WelcometotheJungle for all the world to hear!
The club's immediate future is not yet known, but whatever happens, the city of Atlanta should be grateful to have such a genuinely caring front office staff that the Silverbacks have. We should know within the next few months whether or not the team will stay in Atlanta and participate in the 2016 NASL season, but for now lets take the time to say thank you to Andy and his staff.
