As we learned last week, Major League Soccer is in discussions to do away with the Expansion Draft before Atlanta United FC (and possibly Minnesota United) enter the league in 2017. Immediately debates began popping about whether this news helps or hurts AUFC. This article will not attempt to answer that question (that will follow soon) this piece is about presenting factual data to help you decide whether or not the loss of the Expansion Draft is a help or a hindrance to United.
I'm not a statistical analysis type of person. I'm very much a visual person. I learn by experience. However in this instance, we're in unknown territory. An MLS Expansion club has never entered the league and not had the Expansion Draft as a tool to build their roster. I thought it'd be a good idea to go back and look at the last seven clubs to participate in an Expansion Draft and examine what happened to each player they picked.
