The final vote for the Atlanta United FC headquarters and training facility in Marietta, originally scheduled for today, may be delayed a few more weeks.
The Marietta Daily Journal is reporting that the Marietta City Council is expected to delay the final vote until Jan. 13 tonight, claiming that both sides still have a few more details to hash out.
In November, the Council voted to approve the preliminary MOU for the deal. This waiting period has been designed to allow both parties to iron out the small details in the agreement. That apparently is taking more time than expected.
Marietta Mayor Steve Tumlin told the MDJ that AUFC needed more time to complete their final plans for the 32-acre site while allowing the city to finish development of the Preston Chase site the city owns on Franklin Road.
No need to fret however. This is a simple agreement between the two parties to allow for more time to properly arrange everything before construction begins. Tumlin told MJD that completion is still expected by early 2017.
