Carlos Bocanegra. In a suit. Playing soccer. What could go wrong? I have never dreamt of watching people play soccer in formal suits and evening wear but it certainly sounds entertaining. Former USMNT captain and Atlanta United's technical director Carlos Bocanegra will be participating in the 7th annual Black Tie Soccer Game this year. The charity event is hosted by Soccer in the Streets, an Atlanta based organization that aims to improve the lives of at risk youth through soccer.
All players are required to wear suits and ties, or dresses along with cleats and shin guards. The players raised at least $500 each in pledges and have raised over $250,000 over the event's history. Awards will go out to the best dressed player as well as the highest fundraiser.
Bocanegra commented about the event: "I'm looking forward to playing in the Black Tie Soccer game for the first time. Soccer in the Streets is a fantastic organization that makes a positive impact on youth in our community and I'm excited to help raise funds to support their great work."
The event begins at 2:00 PM and lasts until 5:00, October 18th at The Mansion on Conway Drive in Atlanta. The event is open to the public and tickets can be purchased for $10.
