In preparation of the 2016 United Soccer League season, Atlanta United's affiliate the Charleston Battery announced today that they've picked up the contact options for seven different players from their 2015 roster. Two of the seven additions are goalkeepers, which could spell bad news for United's first ever signing.
Odinsel Cooper and Kevin Corby are the two goalkeepers who had their options picked up today that will compete with Alexander Tambakis for playing time in the Charleston net. Cooper has been the Battery's starting goalkeeper for the last three seasons, while Corby made eight starts in 2015 recording two clean sheets in the process.
The other five who are joining the Battery for the 2016 season include: Emmanuel Adjetey (DEF), Maikel Chang (MID), Ricardo Garbanzo (FWD), Forrest Lasso (DEF), and Taylor Mueller (DEF)
They join Quinton Griffith (MID/FWD), Justin Portillo (MID), and Shawn Ferguson (DEF) as the other names on the active roster for the Battery's upcoming season.
Alexander Tambakis will join the club on loan from Atlanta United to make him the 11th player on the roster. It's unclear how much playing time or what role the Atlanta signing will have with the Battery to begin with. With two other goalkeeper already on the roster, the fight for minutes could be intense.
