WEEKEND LINKS The magic (or lack thereof) of the FA Cup

Soccer

The FA Cup kicks into high gear this weekend. Liverpool have already been held to a draw by League Two side, Exeter City. Check out this Olimipico goal the underdogs scored to take a momentary lead.

It's the oldest club cup competition in the history of soccer, but over the past decade it's sort of lost some of its luster. With fixture congestion a real issue, most top teams use the first few rounds as a development tool for younger players. This leads to major upsets. Some consider this "The magic of The FA Cup", while some just see a watered down product.

A new candidate to replace Louis van Gaal as Manchester United manager has emerged. Former Red Devil's defender, Laurent Blanc, is a logical replacement...eventually.

Panama and Haiti were victorious in their Copa America Centenario playoff matches. So, the full 16-team field for this Summer's historic tournament is now set.

Luis Suarez just can't help himself. The Barcelona striker is in trouble yet again, receiving a two match ban for inciting an altercation. The club are appealing.

Kanye West broke the internet yesterday by releasing a new song AND announcing the date of his next album. Yeezy season is officially here!

There's a new social media venture called "Peach" making its way around the world wide web. Unfortunately it's only for iOS users right now. LAME.

A couple got engaged at a Wal-Mart (as you do) and then were later accused of shoplifting bedroom activity items on the same night. Love is a funny thing.

Some dude bought a dime from 1894 for $2 Million. I'm not trying to judge how people spend their money, but that seems like a poor management of funds. He could've bought a Wu Tang album for that kind of scratch.

Randall Cunningham was known as a phenomenal dual-threat QB. But will be entering the College Football hall of fame as...a punter... hope you have a nice weekend.

Netflix recommendation

Rectify (TV Show) - Imprisoned and sentenced to death for the rape and murder of a teenager, Daniel Holden is freed when DNA evidence gets the verdict overturned. - One of the best shows currently on tv, in my humble opinion. Be prepared for a slow burn.
