Atlanta United will possess the top pick in the 2016 MLS Expansion Draft this offseason as the club learned its fate in the 2016 MLS Expansion Priority Draft. Atlanta won the coin toss to choose first in the draft and Darren Eales decided to go with the top pick in the Expansion Draft.
Minnesota United GM, Manny Lagos, followed by selecting the top pick in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft and Eales quickly nabbed the top slot in the MLS Allocation Order.
The Loons picked NASL/USL priority with the fourth pick, Atlanta grabbed Re-Entry/Waiver Draft with the fifth pick and the draft closed with Minnesota claiming priority in the Discovery Player Ranking.
Expansion Draft, Allocation Order, and Waiver/Re-Entry Draft. Fantastic haul. #ATLUTD

After MLS Cup, the Expansion Draft will take place with Atlanta holding top pick with their choice of players who will be left unprotected by the 20 teams.
All-in-all, it was a good day for Atlanta United who got to select two of the three most desired player acquisition methods. Now we wait for the offseason to see what the use them on.
