The Mercer Bears had little trouble making it to the Southern Conference women's soccer semifinals. After a scoreless first half, three second half tallies led the Bears to a 3-0 win over the Chattanooga Mocs in Macon. With the victory, Mercer earns a date with ETSU on Friday in Johnson City, Tennessee.
Valeria Bermo got things going midway through the 56th minute with her third goal of the season to open the scoring at 1-0. Less than seven minutes later, Maddie Clark added her 13th of the season - third highest in the conference - to up the margin to 2-0. A Mocs own goal about two and a half minutes late in the 65th minute rounded out the scoring. Shots in this one were about even (10-9 in favor of Mercer), but the Bears led 6-2 in shots on frame.
ETSU is next up for the Bears with the winner advancing to Sunday’s SoCon title game. Mercer defeated the Lady Bucs 3-2 at home on September 25 on the strength of a Clark hat trick.
