Atlanta United remains undefeated at Generation adidas Cup East Regional

4-1 win over D.C. United this afternoon

Matt Ralph

Today’s Generation adidas Cup East Regional match for Atlanta followed followed yesterday’s script. Give up a goal early, then stage a comeback for a resounding 4-1 win, this time over D.C. United.

D.C. came out strong to open the match in Philadelphia, taking an early lead on a goal by Tonny Villatoro. Atlanta had some dangerous set pieces in the first half, but were unable to break through. Thomas Toney had a shot from distance that tested the goalkeeper, but he made the save. D.C. took their one goal lead into the break.

Newly signed Homegrown Player Chris Goslin had the breakthrough for Atlanta in the second half. His free kick cleared the wall and found the back of the net. The comeback continued when Saul Tinoco’s initial shot was saved, but James Brighton scored on the rebound. Atlanta was now in the lead 2-1.

Zyen Jones scored off a George Bello free kick to extend the lead and Natnael McDonald finished off the 4-1 win by chipping the goalkeeper.

With two wins in two games, Atlanta will now close out the East Regional on Monday afternoon against the New York Red Bulls. New York won their opener yesterday 2-0 over New England.
