Two teams, two conferences, two similar results - but not the results they wanted.
Mercer gave up two goals in just over five minutes as they fell to ETSU, 3-1, in the Southern Conference semifinals in Johnson City, Tennessee. Despite Maddie Clark’s game-tying goal in the 56th minute, the Lady Bucs turned it around with a 72nd minute marker by Molly Collinson - her seventh of the year - followed by Isabel Hodgson’s 77th-minute tally, her fourth, to ice the game away. ETSU was certainly the better team throughout as they outshot the Bears 24-7 and held a 14-2 edge on shots on goal, forcing Cristina Mursuli to make eleven saves.
In Fort Myers, Florida, the result was a little more competitive, but Kennesaw State dropped a 2-1 decision to FGCU in the ASun semis. The Owls couldn’t overcome a two-goal deficit as their season ended at 10-8-1 overall. Shots were even at 17 (and 8-8 in the shots on goal department), but Emilie Olsen’s sixth of the year (22’) and Tabby Tindell’s 14th (47’) were too much to handle for the Owls on Friday evening.
