If you love trades and transactions, boy are you going to love these next few days. According to Ives Galarcep, Atlanta United will indeed acquire Sean Johnson from the Chicago Fire when the three-hour trade window opens on Sunday, but they won’t be keeping him.
The trade apparently has already been agreed upon between the two clubs, but with Atlanta United drawing closer to acquiring USMNT goalkeeper Brad Guzan from Middlesbrough, Johnson will be used as trade bait to acquire more assets.
The report states that NYCFC is the team that Atlanta will deal Johnson to. However, it doesn’t specify what the club could be getting in return. With the club signing so many international players already, it could be an international roster spot they seek. If not from NYCFC, expect them to acquire at least one in a deal.
Taylor Twellman reported on Friday that Atlanta would be signing Guzan in January when the European transfer window opens. All signs point to that coming to fruition with this news. Stay tuned until tomorrow when the real fun begins.
