The list of players available for selection in the 2016 MLS Expansion Draft was announced earlier this afternoon. Atlanta and Minnesota will have quite a few different options to consider in tomorrow’s draft. There are high-priced Designated Players and value-priced young talents. Starting goalkeepers and goalscorers are both available, along with everything in-between.
On a media conference call this afternoon, Atlanta United president Darren Eales said:
“We have five picks and we want to get the best we can out of the five picks.”
With that in mind, here is a list of the top ten players available in tomorrow’s Expansion Draft:
- Harry Shipp, Montreal
- Cristian Techera, Vancouver
- Jack McInerney, Portland
- Mohammed Saeid, Columbus
- Steven Beitashour, Toronto
- London Woodberry, New England
- Zach Loyd, Dallas
- Michael Stephens, Chicago
- Chris Duvall, New York
- Tosaint Ricketts, Toronto
Now, this list does not account for the individual teams’ strategies, needs, or salary cap considerations. This is merely a list of the top ten players available. We did exclude free agents as that window will open immediately following the draft and the teams would likely wait to chase those targets at that time.
Join us tonight at 8:00 p.m. on Facebook for our Expansion Draft preview where we will discuss the potential selections for Atlanta United and some strategies they might consider tomorrow.
