Atlanta United added five new players to its roster today in the 2016 MLS Expansion Draft. The traditional player acquisition method for incoming expansion clubs saw both Atlanta and Minnesota United exchange picks for five rounds picking players who were left unprotected by their clubs.
Due to winning the coin toss in the Expansion Priority Draft in October, Atlanta United held the first pick and selected Donny Toia. Minnesota followed by selecting Chris Duvall with their first pick.
After five rounds here’s how the full draft played out.
2016 MLS Expansion Draft Results
Atlanta United | Minnesota United |
---|---|
Atlanta United | Minnesota United |
Donny Toia (MTL) | Chris Duvall (RBNY) |
Zach Loyd (DAL) | Collen Warner (HOU) |
Clint Irwin (TOR) | Mohammed Saeid (CLB) |
Mikey Ambrose (ORL) | Jeff Attinella (RSL) |
Alec Kann (SKC) | Femi Hollinger-Janzen (NE) |
It’s important to remember that just because both teams added five players doesn’t mean they’ll keep them all. Trades are a common occurrence after the draft is completed. For that reason, we’ll be delaying our in-depth analysis on Atlanta’s newest acquisitions. We shall see when the dust settles what the roster looks like.
