MLS has announced their initial list of invitees for the 2017 Player Combine ahead of the SuperDraft in January.
The list of 53 college players were invited to the showcase event to try and impress MLS talent evaluators and improve their draft stock. With Atlanta United now holding the No. 2 and No. 8 overall picks in the draft after acquiring an addition first round pick in the Expansion Draft, extra attention will now be shifted to finding the right choices.
It should be noted that not every candidate to be drafted will be on the list. Underclassmen who are possible Generation Adidas signees are not listed nor is the possible first overall pick Jeremy Ebobisse, who elected to sign with MLS early and forego his junior season in college. More invitees are possible according to the league’s official release:
A committee of MLS coaches and NCAA Division I coaches from every conference selected the invitees, all of whom completed their college eligibility this season. Further invitees including Generation adidas signings, non-collegiate players, and additional college seniors will be announced in the coming weeks.
There is only one player from the Georgia area on the list. Louisville midfielder Daniel Johnson of Duluth is the lone Georgian.
