Report: Atlanta United to sign Paraguayan playmaker for $13 million

Miguel Almirón reportedly heading to Atlanta from Lanús

According to Argentine journalist Gustavo Lopez, Lanús attacking midfielder Miguel Almirón will be reportedly heading to Atlanta United at the end of the calendar year.

Almirón is 23-years-old and plays primarily as a central or left sided midfielder. The speedy Paraguayan, who has been compared favorably to Angel Di Maria started his career with Club Cerro Porteño in his native country before heading to Lanús in August 2015.

Rumors in September of this year had Almirón possibly heading to Premier League giants Arsenal in a deal reportedly just over $11 million. The Arsenal approach came after Almirón debuted for Paraguay in the Copa America Centenario in the U.S. over the summer. During that negotiation, Lanús’ president said that the club wanted to keep through the end of the year at least, but they did expect that he would end up playing in Europe in the near future.

Atlanta United say that their policy is to not discuss players under contract with other clubs.
