Earlier this week, Atlanta United were linked with a loan move for Velez Sarsfield midfielder Yamil Asad. According to reports out of South America, a loan with an option to buy had been discussed between the two clubs and it was left up to the player whether or not he’d accept.
Late Friday night, Asad’s father and former Velez forward Omar gave an update on the situation:
Omar Asad: "Yamil ya tiene casi todo arreglado con el Atlanta United" #Velez

“Yamil already nearly has everything arranged with Atlanta United.” - via Google Translate
It seems like this deal is very close happening as well. The club just announced the acquisition of USMNT left back Greg Garza on loan from Club Tijuana. It appears that Asad will be added in the same fashion.
If the deal goes through, it opens up a lot of options for Tata Martino as far as lineup selections go. Asad can play in the center and on the right. With Miguel Almiron being tabbed as “the No. 10” since his signing, it’ll be interesting to see where all three of the South American players are slotted in.
Nevertheless, this seems close to happening according to every indication we’ve seen including this big one from his own father.
