The move was announced in very awkward fashion as the signing was revealed during an announcement for the player joining the Tampa Bay Rowdies of the NASL on loan for the 2016 season. Atlanta United technical director Carlos Bocanegra stated that the opportunity was too good to pass up.
"Tampa Bay was in the final stages of completing a deal for Junior so we're pleased that we were able to work with them to acquire his rights for 2017," said Bocanegra. "He'll see quality playing time while on loan this season and we look forward to monitoring him."
Burgos, 27, spent last season with the Atlanta Silverbacks and took home the NASL's award for Goal of the Year for this stunning free kick. He is a creative midfielder and scored four goals while helping on six goals after joining the Silverbacks from the Orange County Blues. He is the second player signed by Atlanta United.
UPDATE: A club spokesperson told DSS that Atlanta United have an option to buy Burgos for the 2017 season.
