After winning the third-place match against Canada in the CONCACAF Men's Olympic Qualifying Championship, the US U-23s earned a must-win playoff to earn a spot in the Olympics in Rio. The playoff is a two-legged affair with the first leg on Friday, March 25 in Columbia and March 29 at FC Dallas' home Toyota Stadium in Texas.
Zimmerman was a late addition to the squad, coming in as a replacement for Tottenham Hotspur defender Cameron Carter-Vickers. Zimmerman has started both of FC Dallas's first two games, one of which was a clean sheet against the Philadelphia Union in which he was named to the MLS Week 1 Team of the Week.
Cody Cropper, the goalkeeper at Milton Keynes Dons and also was born in Atlanta, was also included in the 23 man squad.
