THREE. MORE. DAYS. That's how long until the 2016 MLS season officially kicks off. The last MLS season that won't feature the greatest soccer team in the world, Atlanta United FC. But that doesn't mean it won't be worth watching. There is a lot of work to be done. Chances are the majority of Atlanta United's inaugural roster will consist of players playing in MLS this season. Watching games this season and judging for yourselves which players are good and aren't is a good way to get a head start on your fellow AUFC supporters.
In advance of the season, it's always customary to throw out some bold predictions for what we think will happen throughout the campaign. Our staff here at DSS was asked to pick their winners for MLS Supporters Shield, MLS Cup, MVP, and Golden Boot (top scorer). Here's how they're feeling about this season's top winners:
Supporters Shield | MLS Cup | MVP | Golden Boot | |
Jason Longshore | FC Dallas | LA Galaxy | Kaka | Robbie Keane |
Rob Usry | Montreal Impact | Seattle Sounders | Mauro Diaz | Clint Dempsey |
Brendan Joseph | Atlanta United | Atlanta United | Alexander Tambakis | Alexander Tambakis |
Adam Snavely | New York Red Bulls | Toronto FC | Mauro Diaz | Kei Kamara |
Matthew Edmiston | Vancouver Whitecaps | Seattle Sounders | Kei Kamara | Sebastian Giovinco |
Aaron Bauer | FC Dallas | New York Red Bulls | Didier Drogba | Didier Drogba |
Sydney Hunte | New York Red Bulls | Seattle Sounders | Kei Kamara | Robbie Keane |
Neil W. Blackmon | Portland Timbers | Columbus Crew | Kaka | Octavio Rivero |
Sam Franco | Portland Timbers | LA Galaxy | Darlington Nagbe | Robbie Keane |
Eric Quintana | Portland Timbers | FC Dallas | Harry Shipp | Jozy Altidore |
Some pretty bold predictions in this bunch. A lot of Cascadia love this year as the Portland Timbers and Seattle Sounders get 3 votes each to win the Supporters Shield and MLS Cup respectively. Kaka, Mauro Diaz, and Kei Kamara each get two votes for an MVP nod, while Robbie Keane is clearly the favorite among the staff to win the Golden Boot.
That's how our staff feels. How do you feel? There's still one day left to make your voice heard. GO HERE and vote and the results will be revealed tomorrow.
