Atlanta United fans who pay attention to the club's USL affiliate, the Charleston Battery, were probably a little confused when they saw Alex Tambakis omitted from the starting lineup on Sunday. He had previously started all four league matches and had been doing just fine between the posts. Was he just being rested or had he been benched?
It turns out it was neither as Tambakis revealed to the Chucktown Check-in on Monday night that he picked up a minor knee injury that kept him out of the match. Thankfully it's not expected to keep Atlanta United's first ever signing out of action for long.
"It was difficult for me to play yesterday because I have a knee injury. It was kind of difficult for me to kick the ball. But it's been better. Hopefully, tomorrow I can train normally and see how it goes," Tambakis told the Chucktown Check-in.
Odinsel Cooper, the Battery's 2015 Player of the Year, got the start in net in place of Tambakis in the 0-0 draw vs. Bethlehem Steel FC. We'll have to wait and see how the rotation in goal plays out once the 23-year-old is fully fit again.
The Battery host the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on Saturday in USL regular season play.
