ATL Champions League tournament raises over $130k for Soccer in the Streets

Atlanta United win their first trophy

Dave Williamson

Soccer in the Streets hosted their sixth annual ATL Champions League tournament on Sunday at Grady Stadium. After almost seven hours of soccer, the Atlanta United team, including Darren Eales, Carlos Bocanegra, and other front office staff members, won the trophy after an intense extra time and penalty shootout in the final against Barcelona.

Eric Quintana and I were there to take in all the action. It couldn't have been a more beautiful day for soccer, and it was especially fun watching President Eales back out on the field. In one of the final games he got the ball on the left side with some space and took a shot that curled perfectly around the keeper and into the side netting. He's still got it!

The Liverpool team raised the most money for the second year in a row and the total fundraising goal of $120k was met and exceeded. The teams greatly improved on last years fundraising total of over $90k.

The tournament was an all around wonderful experience. Should Dirty South Soccer make a team for next year's tournament?
