Earlier this week, we reported on Hector Villalba’s agent discussing an offer from Atlanta United for his client to join the team for their first season in MLS.
Last night, more discussion of this possibility emerged from Argentina.

Two other clubs have been mentioned as possible landing spots for Villalba, Xolos de Tijuana of LigaMX and Fiorentina of Serie A.

Villalba’s contract expires at the end of 2016 and earlier quotes from his agent referenced the fact that he would like to see San Lorenzo, his current club that he joined at 10 years old, receive some financial benefit from his transfer. He was not keen on a free move to Boca Juniors because of this.
While it is too early to predict what happens here, here’s what we know at the moment:
- Villalba’s agent only referenced one club in his interview with Fox Sports’ 90 Minutos program earlier this week, Atlanta United. He stated that an offer had been made.
- Villalba will likely move this summer rather than playing out his contract.
- He is a promising young player who did not get as much time at San Lorenzo in the last season, likely due to his desire to move on to another club.
It is the silly season, but this is one to keep an eye on.
