19-year-old U.S. youth international suddenly available, potential target for Atlanta United?

Dembakwi Yomba with Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone

Dembakwi "Boxi" Yomba was released from his contract with Orlando City B today and is now available. When he signed with OCB in January, many originally thought the signing was for Orlando City's first team. Yomba was coming from Atletico Madrid and off the heels of appearances in the UEFA Youth League and with U.S. youth national teams.

Yomba is a dual citizen of the United States and Sierra Leone and grew up in Lithonia prior to leaving for Madrid. He told the Mane Land this upon his release:

"Ultimately it was a bit unlucky. I got hurt right before the first of a five-game preseason stretch and already being out before then for the past six months due to meniscus surgery, it was a bit frustrating, but then again I had to sit out of those games. And the team was playing well and we won a majority of the matches, so players were nailing down positions ahead of the season. So I was kind of playing catch up fitness wise, tactically and being out for that long, the sharpness is gonna be behind the other guys who are working hard and maintaining that sharpness."

His contract was terminated by mutual consent, allowing the 19-year-old to find a team and gain more playing time. Right now, he will be training with former USMNT striker Eddie Johnson in the Orlando area while figure out his next move.
