Georgia United Soccer Alliance are once again sending two teams to the U.S. Soccer Development Academy playoffs. Both the GU U-16's and U-18's are off to Frisco, Texas to take part in the playoffs.
On Wednesday, both groups found out who they'd be playing in end of the season competition.
The under-16's were drawn into a group with three MLS academies in LA Galaxy, New England Revolution, and Sporting Kansas City. After finishing third in the Southeastern division, they'll look to surpass their incredible run to the final four last year. The U-16's are lead by top goalscorer and Atlanta United Academy-bound, Cheik Fofana, who tallied 22 goals during the regular season.
The U-18's were paired in a group with Wolves Crew SC, Texas Rush SC, and Nomads SC. They had a 17-11-5 record during the regular season, finishing sixth in the Southeastern divison. Another Atlanta United Academy selection, Patrick Okonkwo, was their leading scorer with 22 goals as well.
The playoffs begin on June 22 at Toyota Park leading all the way up to the final that's scheduled for July 16 at the U.S. Soccer National Training Center in Carson, California.
This will be the last run for both sides in the Development Academy as GU will be relinquishing their spots in the USSDA at the U-16 and U-18 levels to Atlanta United to begin next season. Let's hope they can go out with a bang.
