Five Atlanta United Academy players have been called up to the United States under-17 national team for a training camp in Utah. Head coach John Hackworth has looked to the newly-formed Atlanta United U-18 and U-16 teams and plucked Andrew Carleton, Chris Goslin, Carlos Asensio, Kendall Edwards, and Zyen Jones for his 24-player roster.
Carleton and Goslin have been fixtures with the U.S. U-17 team throughout this cycle so far. Jones and Asensio have been on-again-off-again call ups, while Kendall Edwards is a newcomer to the team.
Atlanta United is by far the most represented club on the latest roster. They are making quite a name for themselves and they haven’t even played a match yet.
The team will play two friendlies during the camp. One against Utah Valley University (August 16) and the other against RSL Monarchs (August 20). The camp will be a chance for the players to win a spot on the final roster for the 2016 Torneo Naciones de Mexico, set to take place Aug. 22-29 in Mexico City.
Congrats to all five call-ups and good luck!
