After the United States women’s national team cruised to a relatively easy (though not painless) 2-0 win over New Zealand, they turn their attention to France. Following the USWNT victory on Wednesday night, France put four goals past Colombia to take pole position in Group G on goal difference.

This afternoon’s match will likely be the battle for first place. The U.S. beat France 1-0 back in March in the SheBelieves Cup but lost 2-0 to the same side in February. France are currently third in the FIFA Women’s World Rankings, behind only the U.S. and Germany.

Carli Lloyd and Tobin Heath impressed the most on Wednesday night and will look to keep their form against France. Don’t be surprised if Jill Ellis makes changes to her starting XI, though. With only two full days rest and Mallory Pugh seemingly picking up an injury, expect a different lineup this afternoon.

In Georgia-related news, St. Simons native, Tobin Heath, made her first Olympic appearance and assisted Alex Morgan’s goal.

We’ll be watching again this evening, join us in the comments!
