Kenwyne Jones and Central FC travel to Vancouver to face the Whitecaps tonight in the Trinidad & Tobago club’s third CONCACAF Champions League group stage match. Central FC fell to Vancouver 1-0 in their first meeting, but with a win or draw tonight the Sharks will pass Sporting Kansas City for second in the group.
Jones was a rumored target of Vancouver at different times over the past few years. Ahead of playing there in an Atlanta United kit, he will get some experience in British Columbia tonight.
Vancouver has already clinched winning the group and advancing to the quarterfinal stage of the tournament. A win will help their seeding for the knockout round draw, a higher seed will likely mean they will face a weaker opponent in February.
A player to watch for the Whitecaps is 15-year-old Alphonso Davies. He scored in their last CONCACAF Champions League match and started his first MLS match over the weekend.
