Atlanta United midfielder Chris McCann was forced to leave Coventry City’s League One match against Fleetwood Town today with an injury. Of course, McCann is on loan to Coventry until January and has been a regular starter for them.
The club’s official Twitter account describes the moment the midfielder left the field in the 38th minute of play:
38 - SUB: Chris McCann appears to be struggling with injury and is replaced by Marcus Tudgay. 0-0. #PUSB— Coventry City (@Coventry_City) September 3, 2016
Unfortunately, League One matches aren’t available on TV. We only have media reports to go by and don’t know the full details or extent of the injury quite yet.
The Coventry Telegraph’s play-by-play live commentary describes the injury as a knee injury.
36th minute: Chris Mccann has taken a knock and appears to be holding his knee.
37th minute: Marcus Tudgay goes on to replace McCann who limps off. Gadzhev goes back into midfield to hold while Tudgay slots in as the No.10
The worst fear about loaning a player to another club is that he’ll pick up an injury. However, injuries happen in soccer and there’s nothing that can be done about it. The encouraging aspect of this incident is that he left the field under his own power.
We’ll now just have to wait and see the prognosis of the knock and how long he could be out for.
