Did you know that Mecedes-Benz Stadium will be the home of both Atlanta United FC and the Atlanta Falcons? Yep. That's right. The brand new $1.6 billion (estimated) stadium will host both a professional NFL and MLS team. In case you didn't already know that, the folks in charge of decorating the new stadium will make darn sure you don't forget it.
It was announced on Thursday that MBS will feature two large pieces of art. One a giant falcon, said to be world's largest bird statue. True story. Obviously an homage to the NFL team that will play its home games at the state of the art stadium.
In honor of Atlanta United and hopefully many world-class soccer events to be held at the new digs, they will install a huge soccer ball sculpture. Both pieces of art will be located outside of the stadium.
"This stadium is meant to reflect what our fans and supporters told us they want, and the art program is no exception," says Arthur M. Blank, owner of the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United. "We listened and responded by choosing artists who would bring those sensibilities to the pieces they create; the ideas of community, inspiration, play and excitement will resonate throughout the building."
These will be just two of many art pieces to be installed around and inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Over 100 different selections curated by Savannah College of Art and Design will be contributed to the cause over time.
