The long rumored transfer of Brad Guzan to Atlanta United appears to be on hold until at least this summer according to MLSSoccer.com’s Sam Stejskal.

It was expected that the deal would be completed in the winter transfer window, but an injury to Middlesbrough starting goalkeeper Victor Valdes may have altered the Premier League club’s plans as Guzan has been forced into action unexpectedly.

Guzan’s contract with Boro expires at the end of the current season, meaning the USMNT keeper could join Atlanta as a free agent when the summer transfer window opens in July.

Stejskal’s report states that Atlanta United were hoping to bring Guzan in during the winter on a free transfer, but it appears as if Boro aren’t willing to play ball anymore.

United currently have two goalkeepers on their roster in Alec Kann and Alexander Tambakis. You’d have to think they’ll be in the market to add another one before the season begins. We’ll have to wait and see how it all plays out.
