As is the norm for every MLS club, Atlanta United is going to partake in a fair bit of traveling their inaugural season. Heck, even a few of the adventurous supporters of the team will journey into enemy territory to cheer on our boys. After some strenuous research on Google Maps, here are the distances from Atlanta United’s stadium to the stadiums Atlanta will play in while on the road. Get ready to rack up those air miles or visit a vast amount of gas stations.
NOTE: The distances are measured from Bobby Dodd Stadium for all away fixtures before July 30th and from Mercedes-Benz Stadium for all away fixtures after July 30th.
Minnesota United FC: TCF Bank Stadium, March 12th - 1129 miles
Seattle Sounders: CenturyLink Field, March 31st - 2638 miles
Toronto FC: BMO Field, April 8th - 947 miles
Montreal Impact: Olympic Stadium, April 15th - 1226 miles
Real Salt Lake: Rio Tinto Stadium, April 22nd - 1877 miles
New York City FC: Yankee Stadium, May 7th - 872 miles
Portland Timbers: Providence Park, May 14th - 2595 miles
Vancouver Whitecaps: BC Place, June 3rd - 2770 miles
Chicago Fire: Toyota Park, June 10th - 716 miles
D.C. United: RFK Stadium, June 21st - 640 miles
Columbus Crew: MAPFRE Stadium, July 1st - 570 miles
Orlando City SC: Orlando City Stadium, July 21st - 444 miles
Sporting Kansas City: Children’s Mercy Park, August 6th - 815 miles
D.C. United: RFK Stadium, August 23rd - 640 miles
Philadelphia Union: Talen Energy Stadium, August 26th - 758 miles
New England Revolution: Gillette Stadium, September 30th - 1094 miles
New York Red Bulls: Red Bull Arena, October 15th - 857 miles
If anyone’s curious, that comes to a grand total of 20,588 miles with an average of 1,211 miles per trip.
If you’re like me and only plan on taking one road trip during the season, I recommend traveling to the D.C. United match on August 23rd and then heading to Philadelphia to catch the Union fixture. There’s only two days in between both matches and it’s about an hour and a half drive from D.C. to Philly. That could be a pretty fun few days.
Is anyone going to Vancouver? If so, I respect the dedication(you’re insane).
How many away fixtures do you all plan on going to?
