Gonzalez Pirez traveling to USA to finalize Atlanta United move

Another one incoming.

Atlanta United will soon have yet another addition to its backline. Several reports, including Doug Roberson of the AJC, claim that the club have agreed to sign Leandro Gonzalez Pirez from Estudiantes. All that lies in the way of an official announcement seems to be a physical.

According to other reports, the 24-year-old defender will travel to the United States today to undergo those medical tests. Once the results are approved, the final stages of the deal will be completed and Atlanta United will have themselves a new center back.

It’s unclear exactly what type of deal it will be. Some outlets claim that United could pay as much as a $2 million transfer fee to Estudiantes, while others say there will be no fee involved. We’ll just have to wait and see all the details before fully judging it. However, it is safe to say that he won’t be the club’s third designated player as Darren Eales all but confirmed last week that the third and final DP would likely be an attacker.
