As the Atlanta United roster has rounded into shape, the player rumors have dwindled. However, one interesting link popped up late Wednesday night when FOX Sports Chile reporter Gonzalo Fouillioux says that the club are interested in acquiring central midfielder Carlos Carmona from Serie A club Atalanta.

Carmona, 29, has spent the last nine years in Italy between Reggina and Atalanta. He has two appearances in Serie A so far this season.
According to reports out of Chile, Universidad de Chile and an MLS club are vying for his services. As the FOX report suggests, Atlanta United are the club. ADN Radio claim that Genoa are the other club in a battle with a “mystery team” from MLS.
He is a box-to-box midfielder who has the capability to play as a No. 6. He transferred to Atalanta in 2010 for 2.6 Million euros. He seems to be a feisty player who isn’t afraid of a tackle with many yellow cards through his career. He would certainly add a little steel to the United midfield.
The club still possess a third designated player spot. It’s uncertain if this signing would require the use of it or not.
