“This is another exciting moment for our club, as our preseason tour will start in Chattanooga, signifying our first-ever official match,” Atlanta United President Darren Eales said. “We’re happy to begin our preseason in the southeast and are happy that our fans will have the opportunity to see us play at Finley Stadium in February.”
“This is a very exciting time,” Atlanta United Head Coach Gerardo Martino said. “Preseason matches are always a very important time for the coaches and players to establish a rhythm, and especially important for a first-year team to better understand each other.”
Chattanooga will also host the U.S. men’s national team in a friendly against Jamaica on February 3. This will be the first time the USMNT has played in Chattanooga. Tickets will go on sale on Friday at 10:00 a.m.
Chattanooga FC has been one of the most successful clubs in the National Premier Soccer League since their inception in 2009. Regularly drawing crowds among the largest in their league, they set their attendance record in the NPSL championship match in 2015 when 18,227 saw Chattanooga fall to the New York Cosmos B squad.
In addition to the match in Chattanooga, Atlanta United will be participating in the Carolina Challenge Cup in Charleston, South Carolina. One week after the Chattanooga game, Atlanta will face the Columbus Crew in Charleston. They will also play the Seattle Sounders on February 22 and the Charleston Battery on February 25. United will open their first MLS season on March 5 at Bobby Dodd Stadium against the New York Red Bulls.
