The search for an attacking midfielder continues for Atlanta United. Reports emerged out of Brazil early Friday morning of another name on the club’s wish list.
Juan Cazares of Atlético Mineiro is said to be the next target and has been in contact directly with Tata Martino according to ESPN Brazil.
The Liga do Brasil club have been training in Finland for preseason. Upon their arrival back to their home country, Cazares revealed Atlanta United’s interest to the media:
"Tata Martino wants me in the United States and we are analyzing this situation," he told Estádio.
It’s not clear if a formal offer has been made or what type of interest the club have, only that it exists in some form.
At 24, Carzares fits the mold of the type of player Atlanta United are rumored to be looking for in a potential third Designated Player. He’s young, attacking, and South American.
He joined Atlético in early 2016 and has six goals in 17 appearances for them. He’s also represented the Ecuador national team 17 times, scoring once.
Is this the next addition for Atlanta United? Only time will tell, but the situation is certainly worth watching. We’ll be on the lookout for more updates. Follow us on Twitter if you don’t already.
