Mercedes-Benz Stadium officials announced that the Atlanta United match on July 30th will be the stadiums first-ever sporting event in the $1.5 billion venue. Atlanta United will then play two more home matches at MBS in the middle of August as part of the inaugural month’s opening events at the stadium. MLS will announce its entire 2017 schedule next week, including start times and opponents.

“It is thrilling to see Arthur Blank’s vision for this venue and the incredible fan experience it will bring to Atlanta coming to fruition right from the start,” said Steve Cannon, CEO of AMB Group. “The opening five weeks are going to showcase the thought, design and effort that went into this unique building. Football fans, soccer supporters and concert-goers are going to be treated to a spectacular experience for those events.”

Cannon noted that construction continues to progress on schedule with significant progress being made on the unique roof and the lower bowl. Both are the final major structural elements to be completed. Other areas of the stadium are already moving into the final stages of completion, including the player locker rooms, guest suites, concessions and media areas.

In regards to Atlanta United, Cannon mentioned that the opening matches will showcase the stadium’s purpose-built MLS configuration and FIFA-regulation pitch. There will also be more “intimate” opportunities for Founding Members to experience the stadium for themselves in August.

After months of delays, it’s nice to have an exact date. On July 30th, Atlanta United supporters can watch a world class club compete in a world class stadium.
