Atlanta United close to bringing in two center backs?

Moves incoming?

Atlanta United appear to be close to acquiring two center backs according to FourFourTwo’s Paul Tenorio.

When discussing the possibility of Atlanta drafting defender Miles Robinson with the second overall pick in Friday’s SuperDraft, Tenorio revealed that the chances of that don’t seem very good while revealing that the club are on the verge of bringing in two separate center backs.

The report describes one potential acquisition as a “younger player from a big European club” that would come on loan. While the other is mentioned to be “an older defender”.

It’s not worth speculating who the former player could be just because there are so many possibilities out there. The latter seems like it could be referring to Martin Demichelis who has been strongly linked to United and is confirmed to be leaving his current club, Espanyol after joining in the summer.

While this all seems very vague, it appears moves to shore up the backline are on the horizon. A report this weekend said that Darren Eales would be interested in using the club’s third DP spot on a defender, but this seems to contradict that. We’ll have to wait and see how it all plays out.
