With just one regular season match remaining in their inaugural campaign, Atlanta United have a ton to play for and appear to be getting one of their biggest stars back to help. After the scoreless draw with the New York Red Bulls on Sunday evening, Atlanta manager Tata Martino said that it is “probable” that Miguel Almiron and Chris McCann will return from injury to face Toronto FC in the season finale.
Almiron has missed the last four matches with a hamstring injury that he sustained against the Montreal Impact. In his absence, Julian Gressel has been inserted into a more attacking role and has done just fine. However, the influence — both in the attack and defending — that Miggy brings has been noticeably missing.
With Atlanta United needing a positive result to ensure at least a home playoff match in the MLS Cup playoffs first round and possibly even a first round bye, Almiron’s return couldn’t come at a better time.
