MLS Cup 2017 Playoffs: Knockout Round Open Thread

Before Atlanta United plays their first-ever playoff game tomorrow, there’s two matches tonight to get out of the way first. The MLS Cup playoffs begin with two interesting match-ups.

First off, the East offers us a tasty 3 vs. 6 battle between the Chicago Fire and New York Red Bulls. Two proud MLS franchises with talented players face off. The result of this match will determine who Atlanta United plays should they make it past Columbus on Thursday. If Chicago wins, Atlanta would be guaranteed to play Toronto FC in the semifinals and if the Red Bulls win, Atlanta would play NYCFC.

The West kicks off with a little less of an exciting (in my opinion) match that features the Vancouver Whitecaps and San Jose Earthquakes. The Quakes sneaked into the playoffs via a last minute goal on Decision Day. Will their heroics continue on into the postseason or were they just delaying their elimination by a few days.

Here’s how to watch both matches:

Chicago Fire vs. New York Red Bulls, 8:30 p.m., FOX Sports 1

Vancouver Whitecaps vs. San Jose Earthquakes, 10:30 p.m., UniMas
