Need something to fill that Atlanta soccer void in your life? Well, you might want to make your way over to Brookhaven Friday night and watch an in-state rivalry with plenty at stake.
The Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels(incredible mascot) take on the Berry Vikings for a spot in the SAA Conference Championship. This will be the second meeting of the season between the clubs, as Oglethorpe defeated Berry 2-1 in a comeback win thanks to Topher Marshall's brace late in the second half. The win clinched Oglethorpe's third straight regular season title, losing just three conference matches in as many seasons. Marshall is the leading scorer in the SAA, with fourteen goals in just seventeen matches.
Berry comes in with a 8-7-1(W-L-T) record after defeating Rhodes 3-0 in the quarterfinal. Sophomore forward Jake Williamson is the engine of the team as the leading assistman and joint-leading scorer, with six in each category.
Oglethorpe(14-2-1) will be heavy favorites, as the Stormy Petrels are ranked nationally in three separate polls(#15 overall by HeroSports.com, #24 by D3Soccer.com, and #27 by the NCAA). They defeated Hendrix 5-1 in their quarterfinal matchup.
Both sides look to reach the final after losing in the semis last season. Although Oglethorpe may be favorites, one never knows what could happen in a rivalry match.
