Another day of #BarcoWatch is upon us. Last night some crazy rumors floated about the interwebz that seem a little too far-fetched for us to relay in good faith. A couple of journalists with knowledge of Independiente’s dealings tweeted out that Atlanta United are willing to pay as much as $22 million for Ezequiel Barco.

This coincidentally comes just days after Independiente demanding at least $20 million to sell their prized prospect. It should come as no surprise that ESPNFC’s Jeff Carlisle has refuted the reports, with sources telling him that Atlanta United aren’t budging from their initial $12 million offer.
Have Independiente or an agent leaked this supposed information to some journalists to try and start a bidding war for Barco? That seems to be the most likeliest of scenarios and pushing towards the agenda of the club. Ever since they came out publicly and said they want way more money, it’s felt like they are searching for any other club with deep pockets to compete with Atlanta.
You should probably take these latest rumors with massive grains of salt. Until we see reports of other offers from reliable sources, Atlanta’s initial offer is still the best one on the table no matter how much Independiente want it to be different.
