Report: Colo-Colo offer Carlos Carmona three-year contract

a Chilean connection.

MLS: Eastern Conference Knockout Round-Columbus Crew at Atlanta United FC Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

Multiple news outlets out of Chile are reporting that Colo-Colo have received confirmation from Carlos Carmona and his agent that the midfielder would like to sign for the club on a three-year deal. With Carmona’s wife being pregnant, the report cites Carmona’s desire to raise his child in his native country as one of the main incentives for his move.

However, since Carmona’s contract with Atlanta doesn’t expire until December of 2018, Colo-Colo would have to propose a sizeable transfer fee for the 30-year-old. This proposed three-year offer could also very well be a pre-agreement of sorts for Carmona once his contract with the Five Stripes does expire, allowing him to leave with nothing owed to Atlanta from either him or Colo-Colo.

It’ll be interesting to see if Atlanta has any interest in discussing a potential transfer, at least just to see what exactly they could get in return. That will all depend on how much they value Carmona for the upcoming season and what alternative options the club would have when it comes to player personnel.

Soccer offseason madness, folks. Soccer offseason madness.
