PRO has announced referee assignments for the first week of MLS and Atlanta United will see a familiar face in the middle.

The day was July 22nd, 2015. Mexico faced off against Panama in Atlanta to decide who would advance to the Gold Cup final. A match that will live in infamy within the city and CONCACAF lore.

Referee Mark Geiger was the man in charge of that match. His questionable calls resulted in the night being as contentious as you’ll see on the big international stage. The match was stopped several times due to altercations between teams and fans. A red card and a very disputable penalty kick all awarded against Mexico led to the night being ruined for everyone involved (except the winners). Geiger admitted after the match that mistakes were made.

Geiger returns to Atlanta nearly two years after the fact and will be in charge when United host the New York Red Bulls on March 5th.
