Join us tonight for the weekly #ATLSoccer chat on our Facebook page. It starts at 8:00 p.m. and the topics are up to you. Last week, we were introduced to Barber Jones, so you never know what might happen...
Big trade in MLS overnight that will allow Vancouver to add former Seattle forward Fredy Montero. He will be joining the Whitecaps on a one-year loan from Tianjin Teda of the Chinese Super League. Since leaving Seattle, Montero has starred for Millonarios FC in his native Colombia, Sporting Lisbon in Portugal, and most recently Tianjin Teda.
Minnesota traded the top spot in the MLS Allocation Order to Vancouver so they made the acquisition. They received a total of $225,000 in allocation money for 2018 plus an international roster slot for the 2017 season. They are now in the #4 slot in the Allocation Order as well.
With international slots at a premium for quite a few teams in the league, including Atlanta, it is worth watching their value in trades. While this move involved many other things, Minnesota was in need of additional international slots. They were able to get one, along with lots of GAM and TAM, in exchange for that top spot in the Allocation Order. Atlanta chose to take the top spot in the Allocation Order at the Expansion Priority Draft last October and used it to add goalkeeper Brad Guzan.
