Another Atlanta United Academy star commits to Clemson

The ACC gains another ATLUTD prospect.

Atlanta United may soon have another representative in the ACC. The club’s U-18 defender and U.S. youth international Charlie Asensio has committed his college soccer future to Clemson University.

Asensio joins fellow Atlanta United Academy star Mike Ille as the second player from the club to make Clemson their choice for college soccer. Ille will join the Tigers next season assuming he doesn't sign a Homegrown Player deal before then. Asensio will follow suit a year later. Machop Chol is another academy player who will be attending an ACC school after committing to Wake Forest.

Asensio, 17, was invited to the U.S. U17 Residency Program alongside several other ATLUTD prospects such as Andrew Carleton and Chris Goslin. He has represented the USA at several youth levels over the past few years.

The Roswell, Georgia native will spend one more Development Academy season with Atlanta United before joining Clemson for the 2018 season. Congrats to Charlie and good luck.
