Most expected Fox Sports South to be the television partner for Atlanta United. However, what we may not have expected was the addition of mid-week TV shows dedicated to the team. This kind of all-access coverage of Atlanta United begins very quickly, as Fox Sports South’s YouTube page posted a preview of “Atlanta United: Unite and Conquer”, which will air this Friday at 7:00 p.m. ET on Fox Sports Southeast.
The show is described as “a preseason all-access special chronicling the evolution of the Atlanta United franchise with an exclusive look toward its inaugural season.”
The preview includes interviews with president Darren Eales, technical director Carlos Bocanegra, and players Chris McCann, Jeff Larentowicz and Andrew Carleton.
Eales explains the club’s philosophy in creating the inaugural roster.
“We took a view that, why not be the first club to get young players coming up to their prime from top clubs and let’s do it like they do it in the rest of the world. Hector Villalba is 22 years old, Miguel Almiron is 22 years old, Josef Martinez is 23 years old. We need experience as well, so then we looked at experience from MLS because MLS is different. You’re playing on different surfaces, you’ve got time zone changes when you’re traveling. That’s why we went after players like Jeff Larentowicz and Michael Parkhurst, so we have that blend of MLS experience and savvy veterans together with young, exciting talent.”
Check out the full preview and tune in Friday night for the 30-minute special.
The hype is real, ya’ll.
