March 5th is fast approaching. To showcase the city’s excitement for what will be a momentous day in Atlanta United’s history, the club is sponsoring the “March to Soccer”, a week-long host of events leading up to the inaugural match. Here’s the full list of happenings.
Monday, Feb. 27th: Give & Go
Atlanta United is partnering with Crossroads to assist the homeless in metro Atlanta with a donations drive. Here is the list of what can be donated. The drop-off locations are at the Team Store in Atlantic Station and Von Maur at Perimeter Mall from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Tuesday, Feb. 28th: Takeover Tuesday
2,017 flags will be placed around Atlanta. The club will post hints on the locations of flags on their official Snapchat and Twitter. This is similar to the “Flag Fridays” Atlanta United had last summer, which was very well received.
Wednesday, Mar. 1st: Station Soccer
Come out to the MARTA Five Points Station for 5-Aside pickup on the awesome mini-pitch created by Soccer in the Streets, the first of its kind on public transit in the world. The event is scheduled from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Thursday, Mar. 2nd: Kicking it with CHOA
Atlanta United is partnering with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta for a fun-filled day that will include a FIFA tournament, foosball, inflatables, crafts, and an Xbox giveaway. This is listed as a private event.
Friday, Mar. 3rd: 5-Stripe Friday
Wear the Atlanta United home kits to work, school and just about everywhere in between. Paint the city red and black(not literally).
Saturday, Mar. 4th: Pub Crawl
Atlanta United is taking over the BeltLine, where they’ll hold giveaways, food and drink specials, and raffle prizes in restaurants and bars along the entire walkway. Registration is $35 and includes five complimentary drinks and an Atlanta United t-shirt. The event begins at noon and ends at 4 p.m. Yes, a valid excuse to day drink.
Sunday, Mar. 5th: Inaugural Home Opener
Aah, the pièce de rèsistance. The week of festivities comes to a grand conclusion with Atlanta United’s first ever MLS match. If you haven’t already, buy your tickets. Bobby Dodd Stadium is going to be packed and it’s going to be awesome. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
If these events don’t get you hyped, check your pulse. Atlanta United is days away from their opening match, so go ahead and enjoy the buildup with fellow supporters.
