Not much has been given away by Atlanta United as to what their plans are for pre-match festivities ahead of the club’s first ever match against the New York Red Bulls on Sunday, but one piece of news has come out.
R&B singer Monica, famous for her 1998 hit song “The Boy is Mine” among other career highlights will perform the national anthem for the big match. The 36-year-old artist revealed as much on her Instagram page.
Monica was born in College Park, Georgia and is the cousin of Ludacris. She’s also married to NBA free agent Shannon Brown.
For the MLS spectrum this is a pretty good get for Atlanta United. Not many big-named artists do performances for MLS matches, so to get a Homegrown talent like Monica who will assuredly put on a great performance is a good deal.
