Galaxy, Timbers engage in Twitter kerfuffle

MLS Twitter is the best Twitter

After Atlanta United picked up their first win in MLS history on Sunday, the Portland Timbers and LA Galaxy closed Matchweek 2 with a controversial and exciting clash at the StubHub Center. The match ended 1-0 to Portland, but all the talk was surrounding the first half red card LA defender Jelle van Damme received. Two yellow cards were issued to him for two different “fouls” but of which appeared to involve little to no actual contact at all.

That Galaxy’s social media team, who are known to blur the line between professionalism and over-the-top banter, tweeted out a very funny video of the two Timbers players diving.

Some major time and effort went into that video, something not lost on the MLS twittersphere. The Timbers didn’t take long to respond to the video with a tweet of their own promising a video response while taking a jab at the Galaxy not being able to sell out their home matches.

You just won’t see this type of stuff in other professional leagues. Once again, MLS proves it has the best social media environment and banter in all of sports.
