Atlanta United picked up their second ever win in as many matches and their first home victory in franchise history with dominant performance against the Chicago Fire on Saturday afternoon. A sold out Bobby Dodd Stadium was rocking once again and this time the Atlanta faithful were sent home with three points for the first time ever.
Chicago were put on the backfoot from the opening whistle and within 11 minutes found themselves down a goal and a man. Julian Gressel’s great run into the box and cross forced an own goal from Brandon Vincent just four minutes in. Just a few minutes later, Josef Martinez was hauled down after breaking through the backline. A red card was shown to Johan Kappelhof and Atlanta would stroll for the final 80 minutes of the match.
Controlling a ridiculous amount of the possession, the Five Stripes finally doubled their lead around the hour mark thanks to Miguel Almiron and Martinez teaming up for a great goal. Tito Villalba would put the match out of reach with his first MLS goal and Martinez would add yet another goal give Atlanta a deserved four-goal victory.
